It’s normal for older adults to experience slight changes in their sleeping patterns, like waking up earlier, falling asleep earlier, or experiencing less deep sleep. However, sleep is still as important to a senior’s mental and physical health as it is to someone younger.
Today, we at Daily Dove Care would like to give you a few tips on how you or your loved one can get better quality sleep at night.
- Stick to a Regular Bedtime
Waking up and going to sleep on schedule every day (including weekends) can help your body get used to your routine. - Take a Warm Relaxing Bath
The drop in body temperature you experience in warm baths may help you feel tired. It may also help you relax and slow down at the end of the day. - Make the Bedroom a “Sleep Zone”
If you’re still awake after 20 minutes of lying down, get up and move to a different room. Only come back to bed when you feel tired enough. Train your mind to see the bed as a place for sleep ONLY. - Get Enough Exercise
Exercising during the day can help you spend stored-up energy, which can make you feel sleepy earlier.
If you’re worried about your loved ones’ safety during an exercise, a direct care worker can assist them and keep them safe throughout the process.
